TROPICAL UPDATES:

FOR THE EASTERN NORTH PACIFIC...EAST OF 140 DEGREES WEST LONGITUDE.

TROPICAL CYCLONE FORMATION IS NOT EXPECTED DURING THE NEXT 48 HOURS.

Fire Potential Discussion:

There will be little, if any, fire activity across the entire region throughout the forecast period.

OUTLOOK FOR SOUTH ZONE:

. A cold front which swept through the area last night will generate strong west and northwest winds across the district today. Across some areas of the southern Sierras and the Angeles and Los Padres National Forests, winds of 30-40 mph with gusts to 50 mph will be possible this afternoon. Some sections of the Antelope Valley may experience wind gusts in excess of 60 mph. Cold air will filter into the region and

high temperatures will be 10-15 degrees below seasonal averages across the entire district. Some lingering snow showers will be possible in the southern Sierras and northern deserts, but these will dissipate a few hours after sunrise. Another cold front is expected to push into northern California and into the Great Basin tomorrow. This front will bring a reinforcing blast of cold air into the district and high

temperatures Wednesday will continue to average 10-15 degrees below normal. The wind component should shift to a more northerly direction tomorrow, which will allow for some strong winds to develop in the Owens Valley, the I-5 corridor through the Grapevine and other areas prone to strong north winds. A few snow showers will be possible across the northern and eastern Sierras, but most of the area will remain

dry. An abrupt change in the weather will commence Thursday as high pressure returns to the area. Temperatures will warm to slightly above average readings, aided by some local offshore flow Thursday morning. A weak system is expected to move into the northern California Friday night, but no precipitation is expected from this system. Temperatures may cool off a couple of degrees Saturday, but a strong ridge

is expected to bring above normal temperatures well into the 70’s across the inland valleys for much of next week
